New web page showing the location of house names on a map of the village

Added on 20 February 2025

With most of the properties in the village having house names rather than numbers and with few street names, it can be difficult to know where to find a house, particularly for delivery drivers.

A new web page - 'Village Map Showing House Names' - has been added under the Visitor Info tab. Here, it is possible to:

(1)   View a downloadable map together with a list of house names showing their location. It is in PDF format, easily printed and a copy of this can be found on the village noticeboard.

(2)   View a zoomable interactive map which has a coloured marker for each house in the village. The colours represent postcodes, e.g. Pink markers denote properties with postcode HG4 4BB and green ones are in HG4 4BA. Clicking a marker displays the property name. (It also has a link for displaying 'Details', but other than Postcode and a larger scale map, there are no further details.)

(3)   Find the location of a particular property using the full list of house names which appears in alphabetical order below the map. Clicking on a property name here opens a new window showing its location on a zoomable map.

The maps are based on the OpenStreetMap software and are not to scale. They are maintained by a worldwide community of volunteers and there are some inaccuracies in the building sizes, shapes and names, which we have not attempted to correct in the live interactive version. (Some changes have, however, been made in the printable PDF version to increase accuracy.)

However, the house names listed and marker locations on the map are completely within our control and so if you spot any errors, omissions or adjustments required, please feel free to report them via email to info@thorntonsteward.org.uk.
